Triconex 3401S2 – Triple Redundant 16-Channel Discrete Input Module for Safety Instrumented Systems

In stock

Product Introduction:
The Triconex 3401S2 is a 16-channel discrete (digital) input module for Triconex Safety Instrumented Systems. This board reads on/off signals from field devices such as pushbuttons, limit switches, pressure switches, solenoid valve feedback contacts, and flame detector relays. The “3401” identifies it as a 16-channel discrete input, and “S2” denotes Series 2 hardware with enhanced diagnostics and faster response times. Like all Triconex modules, it operates within the TMR architecture, providing SIL 3 safety certification. This module is the workhorse of discrete signal acquisition in safety systems, handling everything from emergency stop buttons to complex interlock sequences.

Technical Specifications:
Board Type: Triple Redundant Discrete Input Module
Series: Series 2 (S2)
Channels: 16 discrete input channels (dry contact or 24V DC)
Input Voltage: 24V DC, 48V DC, 120V AC, 240V AC (per channel configurable)
Contact Type: Dry contact (Form A, Form B, Form C) or voltage-sensing
Debounce Time: 1ms to 100ms (software configurable per channel)
Isolation: 1500V RMS opto-isolated
Scan Rate: 1ms to 10ms (configurable)
Redundancy: Full TMR with 2-out-of-3 voting
Diagnostics: Per-channel status LED, wire break detection, short circuit detection, stuck-at-fault detection
Operating Temperature: 0 to 60 degrees Celsius
Form Factor: Triconex standard module
Power Consumption: Approximately 4 Watts
Certifications: SIL 3, IEC 61508, ATEX, FM Class I Div 2

Functional Features:
High-Speed Scanning: With a 1ms scan rate, this board captures fast events like emergency stop button presses with zero delay.
Per-Channel Debouncing: Each input has independent software debouncing to reject contact bounce from mechanical switches, eliminating false triggers.
Stuck-At Detection: The module detects if an input is stuck in the on or off position (indicating a welded relay contact) and alarms the operator.
Wet/Dry Contact Support: Accepts both dry contacts (pushbuttons) and wet contacts (voltage-sensing from relays) on the same board.
Fail-Safe Design: On communication loss, inputs default to a safe state configured by the safety engineer (typically “open” for ESD buttons).
Hot Swappable: Can be removed and replaced in a redundant system without shutting down the safety function.
